WORK ITEM — MINI-SPHERE GADGET (Sep 4, 2026, ~6:39pm BST — Mike explored with workspace agent). GOAL: build a self-contained Gadget that replicates the Sphere API surface inside each workspace — nodes + typed edges + recursive recall-with-hops — as a blueprintable gadget. RATIONALE: the workspace agent's own analysis confirms the schema fits SQLite cleanly (nodes, edges, tags, node_updates for append, trivial stats/counts). GAPS ACCEPTED: no semantic/meaning-based recall (no embedding API in sandbox — keyword/full-text + graph hops only), no web ingestion/crawling (pasted text/uploads only, or a binding later). BENEFIT: every workspace gets its own memory layer immediately, blueprintable, no VPS dependency. TRADE: loses the live map (SurrealDB+Flow), loses cross-workspace graph traversal, loses the governed aperture — but gains instant availability and a proven blueprint pattern. DECISION PENDING: build Option A (mini-sphere) now as a blueprint, keep the door open to plug the real sphere in later via binding. [Update Sep 4, 2026]: [Update Sep 4, 2026]: SEMANTIC RECALL PATH (Sep 4, 2026, ~7:09pm BST — Mike): the embedding gap is solvable via a gatekeeper/MCP binding. DESIGN: the gadget holds a VECTOR binding (ai-model or custom embedding gatekeeper) — at capture time, the gadget calls the binding to embed the entry content and stores the vector in SQLite (BLOB or array column); at recall time, the gadget runs cosine similarity in SQL (or a small WASM extension) and ranks results, then layers graph hops on top. ALTERNATIVE: an MCP server exposes /embed and /search endpoints; the gadget calls them through the MCP gatekeeper facet. BENEFIT: mini-sphere gets semantic recall without leaving the sandbox — the binding is the only network path, and it's governed. TRADE: adds a binding dependency per gadget; vectors in SQLite add size (but 1536-dim floats @ ~6KB per entry is manageable for SMB workloads). CONSEQUENCE: the 'no semantic recall' gap is no longer a blocker — it's a binding choice.
