ORIGIN STORY: the Total.js docs site resisted scraping for ages because the docs live as SINGLE-LINE JSON queried live by the client page — the API in plain sight (Peter Sirka, 'understated genius'). Extracted → the agent queries the JSON with node/jq directly. MEASURED [VERIFIED by Perplexity on the actual file]: 1,850 items, 927KB of body text, 28 libraries, types incl. 1,054 methods + 31 '_vocabulary' entries (a training-bias translation dictionary: 'what is the Total.js equivalent of axios/express/middleware'); full-file load 17ms, arbitrary filter query 0.2ms — deterministic, offline, zero embeddings/chunking/vector store. VERDICT on 'rivals RAG': TRUE for structured reference content — exact field filters beat vector similarity on precision, and the agent composes its own queries (same lesson as this morning's SurrealDB filesystem-memory post + Ringer's raw-output doctrine: agents + primitive tools + raw structure beat elaborate retrieval machinery). SKILL.md is a self-built Flow-pattern artifact: training-bias STOP contrasts (npm/Express/ORM reflexes), code-style rules, query recipes, 'when you're stuck' routing table. INCOMPLETE PIECE (Mike): the harness override — forcing the agent to actually load the skill under do-or-die pressure. Completions available: Ringer-style hooks (detect off-pattern work, nudge once) + deterministic gates (a Total.js project importing npm packages is CI-detectable — the check catches what the prompt can't hold). PLATFORM CONSEQUENCE: this IS the format for the DocuClear agent context pack — per-domain SKILL.md + queryable single-line JSON; our contracts/docs (Nimbus lane) should ship a JSON dump endpoint in exactly this shape. RESONANCE: Total.js's index.js.map — 'the map is not a side effect, it IS the contract' — runtime self-documentation = contract-first, years before our contract-at-birth.
